Hilton Hotels in South East Asia Rally Around World Water Day 2022

Team members across 28 hotels to raise environmental awareness, reduce water usage and boost access to clean drinking water in affected communities

SINGAPORE - In line with World Water Day 2022, Hilton’s hotels and resorts across South East Asia have amplified their efforts towards the group’s unwavering commitment to raising awareness of reduced water consumption and to improve people’s access to clean drinking water in local communities through a range of activities. Key to this focus is Hilton’s Travel with Purpose 2030 Goals wherein the company remains fully committed to reducing its environmental footprint by half and doubling its social impact investment by 2030.

“The United Nations (UN) states that the human right to safe water is the foundation for achieving many other internationally recognized human rights and over 2.2 billion people live without access to safe water daily, with around 110 million living in South East Asia. As one of the largest hospitality companies in the world, Hilton has a responsibility to do our part and we are absolutely committed to delivering purposeful guest experiences to all who pass through our doors. Through concerted efforts by our team members in South East Asia, travellers will enjoy greater peace of mind knowing that their stay at Hilton’s hotels and resorts helps to make that destination a better place to live, work and experience,” said Alexandra Murray, vice president, head of South East Asia, Hilton.

Reduce water consumption

Ensuring the quality and availability of water being used throughout its value chain and global operations, Hilton’s holistic water stewardship includes the implementation of sustainable practices in various programmes across its network of hotels and resorts in Southeast Asia.

The team at Conrad Koh Samui visited local schools and temples and offered support to fix damaged water pipes which can lead to water wastage, while Hilton Pattaya installed a separate water piping system across 15 floors to collect leftover bottled water from guest rooms to irrigate the hotel's gardens. The water pipes sprinkled 750 litres of water back to the hotel’s rooftop garden in the first week of implementation. As rainwater collection for hotels became viable, DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur, DoubleTree by Hilton Johor Bahru, and Hilton Garden Inn Puchong collected rainwater harvesting to be used for both a cooling tower and landscape irrigation.

In partnership with Little Ripples, Conrad Centennial Singapore went the extra mile to provide one year of clean water to one person in a developing community for every bottle of wine sold.

In the Philippines, from 22 March until 22 April 2022, Hilton Manila and Hilton Clark Sun Valley Resort are collaborating with Waves For Water to create a team member awareness campaign, providing clean water to support communities in need.

In addition, an education session with major NGOs has been initiated across many of the countries to provide hotels with information about their local situation around access to clean water and sanitation and developing future support.

Continue Hilton’s strong soap recycling partnerships

In supporting the group’s global commitment towards redefining sustainable travel and tourism, Hilton’s hotels and resorts in South East Asia are working with soap recycling partners to aid communities and reduce wastage entering landfills through its renowned soap recycling programme – the largest in the hospitality industry. The partnership was initiated to amplify the ongoing commitment and raise awareness of World Water Day, improving education and community aid to sustain goals in the long term.

Embodying a spirit of service, dedicated team members of Hilton’s hotels and resorts across South East Asia have volunteered to bolster the group’s soap recycling efforts across hotels and resorts, working together to recycle used bar soaps that are sanitized and repurposed as new soap bars for distribution to those who lack access to basic sanitation.

Hilton’s eco-conscious initiatives and guest experiences across South East Asia mirror the group’s global effort towards the promotion of responsible tourism. By delivering on its Travel with Purpose 2030 Goals, Hilton was recognized in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, the most prestigious ranking of its kind, for the fifth consecutive year.
