One of the most popular experiences guests staying at Baia di Chia Resort Sardinia, Curio Collection by Hilton book is horseback riding, a one-of-a-kind experience that offers a seaside view of the unforgettable Sardinian coastline.
The experience starts at the nearby Cavalieri di Domus De Maria equestrian facility, which is within walking distance of the hotel.
Owner Giancarlo Cabras, who is originally from Domus de Maria, had a career as a butcher until his passion for horses and the serenity that horseback riding gave him drew him to open the facility in 2002.
“I found that going horseback riding on Sundays relaxed and rejuvenated me,” Cabras said. “Being outdoors, in nature, and in contact with the horse makes you feel like a different person. It clears your mind.”
The center now has 13 horses that were specifically picked for their calm temperament. Each horseback riding session is limited to 8-10 horses per trip. Cabras leads each group, while an equestrian guide follows the back of the group for safety.
“Many visitors have zero experience with horses,” Cabras said. “They see other people riding and want to join. They see us riding through beautiful landscapes, so they want to try it. You have to be careful, get them on fairly quiet horses and put them in the right position so they can enjoy the ride.”
Guests can book one or two-hour experiences, the latter of which is Cabras’s favorite. The two-hour ride travels past the Su Giudeu Lagoon and Cala Cipolla Beach.
“From there, we venture along inner trails to the Capo Spartivento lighthouse, from where to admire the beauty of the coastline till Capo Teulada,” Cabras said.
