“My entire life I’ve been surrounded by the hospitality industry,” said Jai Patel, current assistant general manager of Tru by Hilton Ashburn One Loudoun in Ashburn, VA.

Jai, who grew up in a 15-room Virginia-area hotel owned by his parents, recalls helping everywhere from the laundry room to the front desk, and says he always knew he wanted to build a career in the hospitality industry.

“I always knew I wanted to come back to the family business,” Jai said. “The only question was when.”

For Jai, the right time was when his father, Vinay Patel, opened Tru by Hilton Ashburn One Loudoun in January 2022. After spending a few years working remotely for a consulting firm, Jai was ready to jump back into face-to-face hospitality with his father.

Both Jai and Vinay rave about providing guests a great experience at the Tru Brand, which is known for providing guests fun stays full of color and local flavor.

“I think the Tru brand really emphasizes a sense of community,” Jai said, pointing out the local snacks hand-picked to showcase in the lobby, which is a highlight of the guest stay. Lobbies in Tru by Hilton properties always feature colorful murals inspired by the local community, and serve as great gathering spots by offering games and TVs.

“The lobby itself is very fun and whimsical, and I think the customers love it,” Vinay said. “The rooms are perfect; the bathrooms are great. The Tru brand checks all the boxes.”

Vinay also says he’s very proud that he gets to work with his son, and explains that their relationship has grown while he watches Jai grow as a leader in his career, one that Jai is excited for in the future.

“In the future, I hope for continued success with the Tru brand, not just in our location, but around the world,” Jai said.
