Opening The Beverly Hilton: Excitement & Entertainment

This Week in Hilton History

The Beverly Hilton opened its doors to Hollywood and the rest of the world in style in 1955 with a much lauded opening celebration and never-before-seen technology such as high speed elevators and air-conditioning thermostats in each room. Ground had been broken on the sprawling property two years prior, and at the time, Hollywood’s film industry was just beginning to take off. Beverly Hills wasn’t yet the glamorous West Coast hot spot it has since become known as, but Hilton saw the potential, and the hotel has since played host to thousands of red carpet events, including the first GRAMMY Awards® ceremony in 1959. The Aqua Star Pool is Beverly Hills’ largest pool and is the setting for many photo and film shoots. The hotel’s International Ballroom has now hosted the star-studded Golden Globes for more than four decades. Browse photos from this iconic hotel.
