Hilton Named 2019 Global Industry Leader for Sustainability by DJSI

MCLEAN, Va. - Hilton (NYSE: HLT) has been named the global industry leader in sustainability on the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI), the most prestigious ranking for corporate responsibility and sustainability performance. This recognition marks Hilton’s third consecutive year on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.

“Since our founding 100 years ago, we have been committed to having a positive impact on the communities where we operate,” said Katie Fallon, head of corporate affairs. “To help lead in a sustainable way over the next century of travel, we launched ambitious goals to cut our environmental footprint in half and double our social impact by 2030.”

In 2018, Hilton took its longstanding commitment to sustainability even further with its launch of the Travel with Purpose 2030 Goals. In doing so, Hilton also became the first major hotel company to set approved science-based targets in line with the Paris Climate Agreement to reduce carbon emissions and commit to send zero soap to landfill.

Since 2009, Hilton has made tracking and reporting energy, water and waste a brand standard across all of its hotels through LightStay, a proprietary corporate responsibility measurement software. Over the past decade, Hilton hotels have measured a 34% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions and a 20% reduction in water consumption and reduced waste to landfill by 41% through LightStay. Hilton also has the world’s largest building portfolio certified to ISO standards for energy and environmental management.

Alongside these efforts, the company also launched the Hilton Effect Foundation with the mission of creating a better world to travel. The Hilton Effect Foundation is currently activated to help with Hurricane Dorian disaster relief in the Bahamas.
