Year-on-year search data from Hilton.com has revealed the fastest-growing travel destinations for this year, with many Brits looking to venture further afield - with countries in Asia seeing huge search spikes.
Looking closer to home, well-explored European destinations continue to be firm favourites. However, the data shows a rising popularity of visiting ‘second cities’, destinations outside of the capital, with Cannes and Heidelberg seeing search increases.
But it’s not only destinations that are in demand - it’s resorts as well, with Brits wanting to relax and recharge on their holidays this year in no-stress bliss. To provide inspiration for Brits’ upcoming trips, Hilton has compiled a list of trending destinations and the best places to stay in each.
Relaxing in Resorts*
Brits are known for their fly and flop holidays, and this love doesn't seem to be slowing down as searches for resorts are increasing on Hilton.com. Lindian Village Beach Resort Rhodes, Curio Collection by Hilton in Greece is seeing a 145% surge in year-on-year searches as Brits seek its private beach and eight dining areas. For those who love a hideaway, there’s no shortage of choice, as Hilton has other great resorts including Conrad Chia Laguna Sardinia in Italy and Hilton Rijeka Costabella Beach Resort & Spa in Croatia.
Adventuring to Asia**
Since reopening to tourists, China has seen a staggering 574% increase in searches across Hilton.com. For travellers looking to soak up the sun in stunning landscapes, Hilton Nanjing Niushoushan is uniquely designed next to the Niushou Mountain Cultural Tourism Zone, with rooms that have picturesque lake views. Each of the four dining areas have cuisine inspired by the surrounding mountains and water.
Rising in popularity over the last few years, Sri Lanka is set to be on many Brits’ holiday wish lists, with 76% more searches this year on Hilton.com. After exploring the Pearl of the Indian Ocean, head to Hilton Yala Resort to be surrounded by lush landscapes while overlooking the ocean. For adventure lovers, join a safari through Katagamuwa Entrance to spot wild animals such as leopards and elephants.
Brits are also looking to head to Vietnam, with searches increasing 104% on Hilton.com this year. For sunset views on the beaches of Phu Quoc, La Festa Phu Quoc, Curio Collection by Hilton overlooks a pristine, white sand beach while being a stone’s throw from local attractions such as the island’s iconic Kiss Bridge. For city-lovers, Hilton Saigon is located on the banks of the Saigon River and surrounded by historic landmarks.
Seeking Short-Haul Second Cities**
Searching outside of capital cities is also a new trend. Brits are turning their attention to second cities, with Cannes seeing new properties opening and subsequent increases in Hilton.com searches (650%). Overlooking Cannes, Canopy by Hilton Cannes is perfect for those looking to explore the glamour that the city has to offer. Spot celebrities and enjoy panoramic views of the marina and Old Town from the rooftop restaurant and bar.
Set on the river Neckar and steeped in history, it’s easy to see why Brits are choosing Heidelberg, with searches increasing 132% on Hilton.com. Hilton Heidelberg is in the centre of town and only a few minutes’ walk from the riverfront. Take in the historic sites, old town and museums of Heidelberg Altstadt (Old Town) before sampling local delicacies in the hotel’s Schrieder’s Bar.
A spotlight is on the trendy city of Rotterdam, with Brits searching for Europe’s largest seaport city 10% more on Hilton.com this year.
