Hilton and Too Good To Go Expand Europe‑Wide Partnership To Tackle Food Waste One Breakfast Buffet At A Time

Today, on International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, Hilton has announced it is deepening its commitment to sustainability by expanding its partnership with Too Good To Go, the world’s largest marketplace for surplus food. This collaboration enables guests and local communities across Europe to purchase delicious, high-quality food at a reduced price that might otherwise go to waste. With more than 130 of its hotels already active on the Too Good To Go app, spanning 14 European countries, Hilton is now the hospitality provider with the broadest country reach on the app.

Each day, Hilton teams pack up surplus food from their renowned breakfast buffets into Surprise Bags, which are then offered at a discount through the Too Good To Go app. Participating countries currently include Austria, Belgium, Czechia, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. This initiative is a key part of Hilton’s broader Travel with Purpose strategy, which aims to drive responsible travel and reduce environmental impact, including through food waste reduction.

Emma Banks, vice president, F&B strategy & development, EMEA, Hilton said: “At Hilton, we believe that great hospitality goes hand in hand with great responsibility. Our evolving journey with Too Good To Go is a powerful example of how we’re scaling impact across Europe, empowering our hotels and guests to take meaningful action against food waste, one meal at a time. It’s a reflection of our commitment to embed sustainability into every aspect of the Hilton experience, and to do so with purpose and reach.”

According to UN Climate Change, food waste is responsible for up to 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions, making its reduction one of the most effective ways to combat rising emissions. Hilton’s partnership with Too Good To Go supports its broader Travel with Purpose strategy, reducing food waste and promoting responsible consumption across its global portfolio. The International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste - observed annually on 29 September to highlight the urgent need to reduce food waste globally - serves as a timely reminder of the importance of these efforts.

Since 2018, Hilton guests and community members have rescued more than 170,000 meals from going to waste through the Too Good To Go app. This is the equivalent to avoiding approximately 460,000 kg of CO2e emissions - comparable to the emissions per passenger of 346 flights between London and New York.

“The hospitality industry has a unique role to play in fighting food waste, and Hilton is leading the way,” said Simon Leesley, COO at Too Good To Go. “Together, Hilton and Too Good To Go are proving how easy it can be to make a difference. Small, simple actions, like rescuing one meal while travelling, can have a powerful impact.”

How It Works:
  1. Download the free Too Good To Go app from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Search for “Hilton” in the app.
  3. Choose a participating Hilton hotel near you.
  4. Reserve a Surprise Bag and pick it up at the designated time.
